Year 11 & 12 Curriculum

Program Definitions

VCE

The Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) is a senior secondary certificate of education.

It is designed to be completed over a minimum of two years.

The Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority (VCAA) is responsible for the administration of both the VCE and the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL).

The VCE includes VCE studies and programs from Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications.

VET

VET programs are designed to broaden opportunities for students in vocationally orientated programs.  These are vocational courses designed to enhance job skills and to complement the traditional VCE.

VCAL

VCAL is an alternative senior qualification at Years 11 and 12 with an emphasis on applied learning techniques.  VCAL encourages a learning approach aimed at meeting the diverse needs of young people.  It is designed to have relevance to personal strengths, interests and experiences and to build confidence, self-worth and employability skills. It provides opportunities for e experiential learning and skill development and encourages student decision making regarding future pathways to work and further education.

VCAL typically involves three days at school, one day doing VET and one day either in paid employment or doing a structured workplace learning program.  There are also opportunities for students to participate in extended periods of work placement
